Project Management
Key Information
Overview
In today’s complex global business environment, effective project
management skills are in great demand. A successful project
manager balances the conflicting goals of efficient resource usage,
quality of product, time to market and customer satisfaction.
The course is intended to provide you with the technical and
process skills to undertake the role of a successful project
manager in the modern business environment. It is suitable for
those already in the profession who wish to improve and develop
managerial skills as well as graduates at the start of their career.
Project management requires a multidisciplinary skill set and this
course will bring together components from both the School of
Computing and Mathematics and Keele Management School.
The course will cover all the basic project management components
as defined in the Project Management Book of Knowledge. It will
also provide the fundamental soft skills required in successful team
building and the complex area of people management. You will
learn through a combination of lectures, seminars and workshop
session. These include a mix of group study and discussion,
presentations by teams and individuals and individual learning
tasks. A virtual learning environment is used to provide you
with access to a wide range of electronic learning materials.

Indicative modules
This is a twelve month, full-time course starting in September,
comprising of seven taught modules plus a dissertation or company
internship. During the first semester you will take four core modules.
There is also one core module that runs throughout the first and
second semesters. During the second semester you will take two
core modules (one is double-weighted). From the end of May to
September, you will undertake either a dissertation which is often
industrially based or an internship.
