Overview
Our high quality and distinctive programme is designed for those
wishing to pursue in-depth academic study in the field of human
resource management and associated disciplines, with a view
to working, researching or teaching in the subject area. Keele
Management School is a main provider of Human Resource Management
and Industrial Relations courses and research in the UK. Students on
this course come from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines
and from all around the world. The teaching team is active in research
and publication, focusing on international and national employment
and equalities aspects of public policy, spanning both private and
public sectors and typically featuring high levels of engagement
with employers, trade unions and government bodies.
This programme provides a thorough understanding of the employment
relationship and an excellent grounding in the theory and practice of
human resource and labour management. It locates these through
historically informed treatment of the subject area, examining key
institutions, problems and issues in contemporary human resource
management and employment relations. The main focus is on the UK
but this is set within a broader comparative perspective, enabling an
assessment of contrasting systems of employment relations and an
evaluation of a range of crucial issues on a European and global scale.

The course aims to:
• Provide you with an academically rigorous education in human resource
management, employment relations and associated disciplines
• Develop your analytical skills
• Develop a critical approach to human resource management lit erature,
issues and practice
• Prepare you for further study or career progression
Each student is allocated an academic tutor to explain key themes,
develop study and writing skills and provide advice on assessment.

• Employee Resourcing
• Employee Development
• Pay and Performance
• Employment Relations
• Research Methods
• Research Dissertation/or Student Consultancy Project
The taught modules are assessed by a variety of methods,
predominately coursework based.
On completion of the taught modules students will have a choice
of either undertaking a research dissertation or a student consultancy
project to complete their course.
Students taking the postgraduate diploma follow the taught modules only.
