Overview
Our postgraduate certificate in Applied Clinical Anatomy involves
the anatomical examination of the human body, especially as
revealed by dissection. We aim to promote the acquisition and
development of anatomical knowledge and skills through the
application of anatomical science. Our course is designed to allow
choice and foster personal development. Plenty of opportunity is
given to develop your skills in anatomy and dissection using human
cadaveric specimens. The course is aimed at students who have
studied some basic anatomy within their first degree, including
but not limited to: medical doctors; allied health professionals;
nurses; midwives; other health related professionals; graduates
in biology; cell biology; biomedical science; sports science;
and medical illustrators.

The full-time programme can be completed in approximately
nine months. The part-time programme runs for approximately
21 months. The programme of study will be delivered through block
teaching sessions and self-directed study. Teaching will be via
lectures, seminars, discussions, problem-solving sessions, tutorials
and dissections to address theoretical and practical aspects of applied
clinical anatomical knowledge. A variety of modes of assessment
are offered such as assignments, presentations, interactive practical
examinations and portfolios.

Indicative modules
• Applied Clinical Anatomy 1 covers histology, embryology,
identification of prosections, gross anatomy of various systems,
imaging, preserving and embalming. The gross anatomy will be
linked to functional and clinical relevance.
• Applied Clinical Anatomy 2 is studied through student led tutorials,
theoretical and practical studies including dissections. You will cover
in depth the theoretical and practical aspects of knowledge relating
to your chosen anatomical focus.
• One elective module to the value of 15 credits at level 7 from
within the faculty or the wider university.
