Humanities and Social Sciences Research
Our vibrant research community consists of nine research centres at Keele, with over 200 academic staff and more than 300 postgraduate research students, contributing to a diverse and supportive research culture for postgraduate study.
Rooted in Keele’ s history of multi and inter-disciplinary study, our research strengths span areas such as ageing, HIV, communities, creative writing and social policy. Our Under Construction @ Keele journal and our blog provides a platform for our postgraduate students at any stage of their research to showcase their work and experience, supporting our network of students across different disciplines.
The quality of our research environment was recognised in the most recent Research Excellence Framework( 2014), and we are also a member of the Arts and Humanities Research Council( AHRC) North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership.
We offer PhD, MPhil and Professional Doctorate research degrees, and we have a Graduate Teaching Assistantship scheme for those interested in developing their teaching skills alongside their research.

As a postgraduate research student( PGR) you will benefit from our friendly and experienced faculty research office staff, access to high quality office space over three PGR hubs across campus, dedicated internal funding to support attendance at events and training, both in the UK and overseas as well as a vibrant programme of research related events such as the Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences Grand Lecture Series, seminars, workshops, readings, exhibitions, conferences and performances.
You will be supervised by our leading academic experts, gain research training, both through specialist courses provided by the faculty as well as through an extended network of partner universities, and have access to quality academic facilities and equipment to support your work.
Our research culture is supported through our supportive postgraduate student community; including the weekly Postgraduate Research coffee mornings, an annual Postgraduate Conference, the Keele Postgraduate Association and wider campus community.
