Social and Community Psychology Key Information Overview This MSc is designed to prepare psychology graduates for the next stage of their career in psychology. Our graduates go on to take up positions in the workplace, register for professional psychology training (e.g. educational psychology) or a PhD in psychology. Keele has a vibrant, well established and ever expanding community of researchers in aspects of social and community psychology, combining tradition and innovation. MSc students are made to feel part of this research culture both through the formal modules and through involvement in research seminars and meetings. Our programme provides taught content and research training in a range of areas in social and community psychology including: co-operation in groups; the psychology of the workplace; the dynamics of recruiting and losing group members; the power of reputations; the role of technology in modern society; influences of social media on self-esteem and impression formation; online versus offline interactions; and the dynamics of games and gaming. You will benefit from a range of support including accessible academic staff with a wide range of expertise, laboratory and other research space, study space, and access to IT and research tools. Ther e are currently approximately 20 full-time academic staff in the School of Psychology, all of whom are actively involved in a wide range of research across a diverse range of psychology specialisms. The course is assessed through written coursework, unseen examination, verbal presentation of research and independent research written up as a dissertation.
