Overview With the international increase in demand for employees with advanced IT and computing skills, our MSc in Advanced Computer Science will prepare you for a career in a range of contemporary roles, including: the use of data management, analysis and presentation tools; the development of software to deliver services or to control complex processes and equipment; or to provide system analysis and development consultancy to a diverse range of clients. The course aims to develop both technical and people skills, making our graduates ready for jobs that offer both high satisfaction and regular challenge. Applicants do not require a background in programming or data analysis as training is provided to catch up with those who already have such experience. Additional information You will use a variety of innovative learning tools and methods in studying for this course. Formal lectures, taken by experts within the field from academia and industry, are supplemented by smaller, group tutorials and practical sessions, dependent on the topics being covered in the module. A virtual learning environment is used to provide you with access to a wide range of electronic learning materials. Module titles This is a twelve month programme starting in September, comprising of eight taught modules supported by leading experts within the field, plus a project or industrial placement where you will choose one of the areas covered during the course to explore further. During the first semester you will take three core modules and one elective module. There is also one core module which runs throughout the first and second semesters. During the second semester you will also take three core modules. From the end of May to September, you will undertake either a dissertation or an industrial placement.
