Undergraduate Programmes 2020 | 3 Welcome to the Department of Mathematics Mathematics combines the beautiful and the useful. It is intellectually satisfying, sometimes shocking, persistently relevant. Mathematics has well-established, yet rapidly developing, applications in business, engineering, science, technology, economics and medicine. Moreover, it is used increasingly in areas such as law, politics, sport, ecology, psychology and the arts. The well-qualified Mathematics graduate has an invaluable education and is a potentially flexible and sought-after employee, with a high level of problem solving skills. Over the years we have prided ourselves on providing a friendly and supportive environment for students. In particular, by the end of your degree, you should feel that you know the staff well and that they know you. Our mathematicians are involved in a variety of pure, applied and statistical research projects. This research work has an international reputation as evidenced by the latest external assessment of research. We aspire to pass on this love and enthusiasm for mathematics to our students. As a department, we are proud of our achievements and hope that you will find studying Mathematics at Keele an enjoyable and rewarding experience. keele.ac.uk/scm
