Numerical Modelling with
Partial Differential Equations
The occasions in the real world where
physical systems can be modelled by
the closed form solution to a governing
equation are extremely rare. Usually the
complexity of the problem means that
only approximate solutions can be found
and that computational methods are
required to model the behaviour. This is
true for situations as diverse as weather
prediction, modelling the air around
planes and racing cars and computing
the stresses in buildings and bridges.
This module provides the foundations for
computing numerical solutions. Students
will learn to program the methods for
themselves in a modern programming
language like python.
