20 | Sustainability at Keele S U S TA I N A B I L I T Y AT KEELE Sustainability is a key priority at Keele University. Since 1990 we have trebled our student population and significantly expanded our campus - whilst simultaneously decreasing our total CO2 emissions. What’s more, we’ve turned our campus into a living laboratory by creating Europe’s first ‘at scale’ Smart Energy Network Demonstrator, where new energy-efficient technologies can be researched, developed and tested in a real-world environment. We were privileged to welcome Sir David Attenborough to campus recently to officially open our new life science laboratories, which have been named in his honour, as part of our £45m investment in science facilities on the Keele campus. Sir David said: “I believe that we are on a turning point. I believe that universities like this one, which pays particular attention to sustainability, are right at the cutting edge.” FIND OUT M O RE AT KEELE. AC. UK/ SU S TA I N A B I L I T Y
