Why study this course?
Education and Music provide a great combined degree if you are interested in creativity,
music, learning, teaching and the links between them. This combination of degree subjects
would be the ideal choice if you are interested in pursuing a career in teaching involving
music.
You will study educational topics such as the nature of learning, child
development, as well as the history of education and changes to educational
policies and practices. You will also investigate music in a wide range of
contexts, as well as focusing on the creation and performance of music.
You will examine its meaning and uses in a diversity of styles, periods and
traditions, through topics including history, aesthetics, and the social impact
of music. You can also take a work placement module studying music in the
community or an education placement module in schools. Music at Keele
is a hub of world-class musicologists, composers, music technologists and
performers, and the musical life on campus is rich and varied. You will have
permanent access to music practice rooms and studios.
What will this mean for my future?
When you graduate, you might choose to do a PGCE and become a teacher.
If you are thinking of travelling or working abroad after graduation,
Keele’s Language Centre offers a variety of courses that may enable you to
graduate with an enhanced degree with foreign language competency or an
internationally recognised qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of
Other Languages (TESOL).

variety of careers including local government, media and communications,
sales and marketing, banking, and the legal profession. You could follow
