BA (Hons)
Why study this course?
Education at Keele is distinctive because of its strong focus on contemporary issues and
policy making. Studying Education means considering its relationship to the economy, its
historical evolution, its impact on people’s life chances and identities, how it is organised,
and how learners learn.
You will study educational topics such as the nature of learning, the history
of education, and educational policies and practices that aim to promote
inclusion and social cohesion. Studying Education at Keele, either on its own
or with another subject, will help you explore the many ways that education
can change and effect modern society.
The course further examines topics such as changing ideas around
childhood and learning, digital technologies, citizenship, race, play, work,
the political nature of schools, and the impact of poverty on both the results
and experience of education.
You will also have opportunities to explore these issues abroad by doing an
International Year, which can lead to an enhanced degree title in ‘BA (Hons)
in Education with International Year’.
What will this mean for my future?
Our undergraduate Education programme sets you up well for further
professional study to qualify in areas such as teaching, social work or
the legal profession. The course opens up a range of opportunities from
pre-school environments to adult learning, as well as in a variety of other
contexts, such as politics, the civil service, journalism or business.
If you are thinking of travelling or working abroad after graduation,
Keele’s Language Centre offers a variety of courses that may enable you to
graduate with an enhanced degree with foreign language competency or an
internationally recognised qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of
Other Languages (TESOL).
