Criminology, Education and Sociology at
Keele are highly respected internationally,
for world-leading research and high quality
education. Our disciplines are both
theoretically innovative and relevant to
application in the real world.
The Criminology programme at Keele, which
is the oldest undergraduate Criminology
programme in the UK will allow you to
gain insights into how society responds to
crime through systems of crime control, the
workings of our criminal justice institutions,
through media representations, which are vital
skills for a future career in criminal justice. You
will learn about the nature and causes of crime
and offending and explore the methods used
to collect and analyse criminological data.
Sociology at Keele combines leading research
with lively and accessible teaching, providing
an innovative and imaginative approach to
this exciting subject. During your degree, you
might explore social issues such as migration,
globalisation, urban living, inequalities,
consumption, and parenting. You will study
a range of sociological theories and learn about
the methods that sociologists use in their
research.
Our Education course explores education from
different angles, from how it affects people’s
life chances to how it shapes their identities. It
perfectly integrates into other areas of study,
such as psychology, philosophy or sociology.
You’ll be set for a career leading to teaching, or
other work in schools, in community work, in
educational leadership and management, or
further academic study.
