Summer2015 l Keele Management School News Liz Riley 12 Meet Liz Riley, KMS Postgraduate Programmes and CASIC Administrator Tell us about your role within KMS I started work as an administrator at Keele in 2001 so I have seen many changes and improvements during my time! The campus has grown with the addition of the new Medical School and the Science Park. The creation of Keele Management School has been a major asset for the University and the purpose-built lecture theatre and renovation of the KMS building has meant that the School is able to offer great facilities for its students. My own role has changed several times during my time at Keele and I have administered both postgraduate and undergraduate courses, providing support and advice to students and staff. I have recently become involved in the creation of an exciting new project – the Community Animation and Social Innovation Centre (CASIC). One of the objectives of the centre is to foster community-based research using creative and artistic ways of engagement, learning and research. We recently held the internal launch of the centre which proved a great success and we are now planning the international launch which will take place in October. We are also organising a food festival in June which is a celebration of community food and health in Stoke on Trent. For more information on CASIC and its events, please visit the website at keele.ac.uk/casic If you weren't a university administrator what would you be? I love reading novels so either a proofreader or book editor would be perfect as I could get paid to do what I love! What would you say to a prospective KMS student? Keele is a great place to study, it’s a beautiful campus with so many activities going on, and you’ll have fantastic opportunities to make friends with people from all over the world so make the most of it! Any advice you would give to a current KMS student? Your time at Keele will fly by – ensure that you plan ahead so that there is no last minute panic for deadlines! Both within KMS and the wider University there are many sources of information and support available so don’t be afraid to ask for help, it’s what we are here for. If you could visit any country in the world, which would it be and why? My dream destination is Australia; my sister has lived there for the past 10 years and I would love to be able to take my children over to see her and not only do all the traditional tourist things, but also be shown around by someone with local insight. The Torres Strait Islands would have to be part of my visit as my sister works closely with the local communities and the islands look like paradise.
