HOW WILL I FIT IN STUDYING? | 29
How will I fit in studying?
Students on our part-time programmes do sometimes
combine study with their full-time jobs.
Jim Bywater, a Group Manager
with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue
explains what it was like to study
part-time whilst working full-time.
“As expected, it has been
challenging. Time management and
self-discipline has been required.
However once immersed into the
reading and the knowledge has
been absorbed, the essay writing
has been an enjoyable process.”
Jim has subsequently moved on
to the MA Industrial Relations and
HRM programme because:
“The subject is really important
in my line of work. The certificate
has given me a thirst for more
knowledge and to challenge my
own and others thinking around
the subject content.”
Some students on our full-time
programmes also take on part-time
jobs but it’s worth remembering
that attendance at lectures and
tutorials is compulsory so you
must be available for study at the
University from 9 am to 6 pm,
Monday to Friday. It is also worth
knowing that often the teaching
timetable for semester 2 is different
from semester 1 so it must not be
assumed that you will be free to
work on certain days or times.
You also need to bear in mind
that if you choose to apply for
an Applied Company Research
project then you will need to be
available Monday to Friday from
June to September.
