HOW WILL POSTGRADUATE STUDY DIFFER FROM STUDYING AT UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL? | 27 Academic Year The academic year starts in September and is divided into three semesters. There are two teaching semesters, September to January and January to May and a third semester from May to September. During the third semester you will either complete a supervised dissertation or work on your supervised applied company research project. How are the programmes structured? Each programme consists of nine taught modules each worth 15 credits to give you a total of 120 credits. You will then choose to undertake either a dissertation or an applied company research project, both of which are worth 60 credits. Successful completion gives you the 180 credits for a Master’s degree. Dates for 2017/18 academic year are: Your dissertation provides you with an opportunity to apply the theory you have learned to an in-depth specialised study. SEMESTER 1 25th September 2017 to 19th January 2018 SEMESTER 2 22nd January 2018 to 8th June 2018 SEMESTER 3 11th June to 28th September 2018 The applied company research project enables you to critically reflect on organisational experiences and to develop and apply the skills and knowledge you have developed on the taught part of the programme. Assessment Full-Time courses have examinations in both January and May and a combination of other in-course/module assessments which vary from course to course but can include essays, assignments, group work, mini-projects and tests. If you are successful in applying for an Applied Company Research project you will be assessed by a report; a presentation to the host company management team and KMS academics, feedback from the host organisation and a reflective account of the project. keele.ac.uk/kms
