HOW WILL A MASTERS DEGREE HELP ME IN THE FUTURE? | 23
How will a master’s
degree help me
in the future?
Your first step on the career ladder
Careers in any sector can require, or
benefit from, management qualifications
and this is often why students with first
degrees from other subject areas join
us for postgraduate study. Our masters
programmes will not only provide
you with a recognised management
qualification but will also encourage
you to develop as an independent
thinker, gain the confidence to question
the established way of “doing things”
and to come up with creative solutions
to business problems.
Fredericke Damme wanted a
recognised postgraduate management
qualification to help her future career
prospects. Having completed her
undergraduate degree in humanities she
joined us to study for an MA Marketing.
“I found the course challenging, interesting and
varied. Marketing is a wide field and the different
seminars within the MA provided a range of topics,
both academic as well as practical. Students had
the opportunity to explore philosophical approaches
with modules such as consumer behaviour,
as well as more practice-orientated modules
such as Marketing Research.
97%
of our research
was classified as
world leading,
or of international
importance

Framework, 2014
Fredericke found that not having an undergraduate
degree in a related subject was not a problem.
“Even though my previous degree was in humanities,
I found the course accessible and well structured.
The teaching was of high quality and there was a
particular emphasis on case studies to give students
a good insight into the practice of marketing within
different industries. In one module we had the
opportunity to create our own marketing plan for
an organisation which I thoroughly enjoyed as
I felt it provided me with great skills that could
be beneficial in future employment.”
