KMS Successes at Keele Students’
Union (KeeleSU) Awards Ceremony
The first student-led teaching awards hosted by KeeleSU gave Keele students the
opportunity to say thank you to anyone who has had a positive impact on their experiences
at Keele. KMS was well represented in the nominations and the awards:
excellent attendance and has
made a real difference on his
course. He has been described
by academic staff as an excellent
communicator who provides
great feedback to staff from the
students he represents.
Student Voice Partnership Award
Our undergraduate administration
team leader, Tracy Statham was
nominated for a Student Voice
Partnership Award to celebrate
a member of staff who actively
supports StARs in their role.
Fantastic Feedback Award
Teresa Oultram, Lecturer in
Management and Dr Laura
Mitchell, Programme Director
for the MA Management and
MA International Business
programmes, were both
nominated for a Fantastic
Feedback Award. This award
recognises and rewards feedback
that has ‘transformed how
you complete your future
assessments, has been delivered
in an innovative and constructive
way, effectively supports your
learning process, exceeds your
expectations, goes above and
beyond the new typed/electronic
feedback process or is something
completely new’.
We are happy to say that Laura
won the award.
Faculty StAR of the
Year (Humanities) Award for
KMS student
Besides celebrating the
achievements of staff across
Keele University, the awards
ceremony also celebrated the
successes of the Student Academic
Representatives. KMS again
performed well with the Faculty
StAR of the Year for Humanities
Award going to Pardeep Bora, third
year Marketing student. Pardeep
received nominations from both
staff and students and has been
a StAR for three years. He has
StARs Above and Beyond Award
This award was also given to a
KMS student, Katherine Miller,
third year Management. Katherine
was described by the Union as
“a true inspiration to the StARs
programme and we were delighted
to see so many nominations
for this StAR from a number of
different students, StARs and
staff members. She has overcome
real adversity and has still been
able to effectively represent
her peers. Juggling academic
work and representing students;
with illness, Katherine has done
all she can to ensure the voice
of her fellow students is heard.
She has built good relationships
with staff and is conscious of
offering positive feedback in
SSLC as well as problems and
suggestions, something which we
can often forget to do. Ill health
has not stopped Katherine from
representing her peers.”
The Awards Ceremony took
place in Keele Students’ Union
Ballroom on Thursday 15th May
and was attended by Professor
Fiona Cownie, Pro-Vice Chancellor
Keele University, Rachel Wenstone,
National Union of Students’
Vice President, Higher Education,
and Ally Bird, Keele University SU
Vice-President Education.
