01 Keele Management School News l Summer2014 Welcome to Keele Management School News Professor Robin Bladen-Hovell Director, Keele Management School students in Accounting and Finance-related subjects during 2014. It has enabled us to launch our own Student Bloomberg Investment Competition and the first ever winner was MSc Financial Risk Management student, Christina Kithinzi and you can read more about this in the magazine. The School constantly reviews and updates its programmes in order to remain relevant to what is happening in the business and management sectors. Last year saw the launch of two new Masters programmes in Finance and Financial Risk Management and in 2014 we are launching an additional exciting new Masters programme in Accounting and Financial Management. “I hope you enjoy reading this first edition of our new School Magazine which I am extremely proud to introduce to you.” We aim to show you a little more about what goes on in Keele Management School and how this complements the studies of our students and contributes to the positive continuous development of the School. From student-led societies, research activities, visits to external organisations and the presentation of student prizes – you will find an interesting breadth of stories and information within the magazine. Recently, we established a new learning laboratory in the School predominantly to deliver the new Bloomberg Professional Services Platform. This is used to provide our Masters students in Finance-related subjects with real-life trading experience. We will be extending it to support the teaching of our undergraduate Keele Management School academic staff are passionate about their teaching and their research. Both Dr Teresa Oultram and Dr Laura Mitchell were nominated for student-led awards earlier in the year and many of you would have read about Professor Claudio Piga’s research, published in the national press and presented at the Royal Economic Society Conference, which looked into the pricing system of low-cost airlines.
