Welcome to Keele Management
School News
Professor Robin Bladen-Hovell
Director, Keele Management School
students in Accounting and
Finance-related subjects during
2014. It has enabled us to launch
our own Student Bloomberg
Investment Competition and the
first ever winner was MSc Financial
Risk Management student,
Christina Kithinzi and you can read
more about this in the magazine.
The School constantly reviews
and updates its programmes
in order to remain relevant
to what is happening in the
business and management
sectors. Last year saw the
launch of two new Masters
programmes in Finance and
Financial Risk Management and
in 2014 we are launching an
additional exciting new Masters
programme in Accounting and
Financial Management.
“I hope you enjoy
reading this first edition
of our new School
Magazine which I am
extremely proud to
introduce to you.”
We aim to show you a little more
about what goes on in Keele
Management School and how this
complements the studies of our
students and contributes to the
positive continuous development
of the School.
From student-led societies,
research activities, visits to
external organisations and the
presentation of student prizes –
you will find an interesting breadth
of stories and information within
the magazine.
Recently, we established a new
learning laboratory in the School
predominantly to deliver the
new Bloomberg Professional
Services Platform. This is used
to provide our Masters students
in Finance-related subjects
with real-life trading experience.
We will be extending it to support
the teaching of our undergraduate
Keele Management School
academic staff are passionate
about their teaching and their
research. Both Dr Teresa Oultram
and Dr Laura Mitchell were
nominated for student-led
awards earlier in the year and
many of you would have read
about Professor Claudio Piga’s
research, published in the national
press and presented at the Royal
Economic Society Conference,
which looked into the pricing
system of low-cost airlines.
And finally, read Huzaima
Rahim’s article to find out why
our students benefit from
“keeping it Keele!”
