ALUMNI OF THE YEAR Alumnus of the Year Carroll Ryan Carroll Ryan first attended Kingsway College in the early 1960’s. She is a graduate of the class of 1965 and has been an employee of Kingsway College since 1982, by the time she retires (that remains to be seen) next year she will have worked at KC for 33 years, 1/3 of a century. Before she came to KC she worked for the Federal Government in the Income tax Dept. She also worked for the Premier of N.S. when he also operated an optometry practice. Her passion for her husband, her own kids and all the students she has taught over the years has kept her focused and dedicated to this school. Carroll has 2 children Kim and Robert who also attended and graduated from Kingsway College. She has two grandchildren Jakob and Victoria. She has one husband, Jim, and they have been married for 45 years. During her tenure at KC she has been responsible for the library and the Art Department. When she started teaching art classes, the department was equipped for only ceramic class instruction. Over the years Carroll has developed the arts program and we now offer two Arts courses that are recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education as credits that count toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. KC has been very blessed to have a talented person such as Carroll on staff. She has dedicated countless hours of her own time, money and energy as well as Jim’s for that matter to making sure that whatever she set out to do was done in an excellent manner and always beautifully decorated. She has worked on countless Alumni Weekends, Band and Choir events, and banquets over the years sometimes staying up all night to make sure things were done on time and to her satisfaction. No one but God will truly know how much of herself she has given to KC over the years, but one thing we know for sure is that countless students and colleagues have benefited from the dedication and hard work of this one woman. It is interesting to know that one of the things that Carroll vowed when she left KC as a student in 1965 was that she would never marry a pastor. When she met Jim he was far from a pastor or even a Christian for that matter. Through her influence though, he became a follower of Christ and later on a pastor. Carroll maintains to this day that God tricked her. 6 KC Contact Spring 2014 Honorary Alumnus of the Year Sandra Kudla Sandra has been a member of College Park Seventh-day Adventist church since 1993.
