GETTING IN GEAR Events give golfers chance to buy new or used equipment
If you ’ re in the market for new or used golf clubs , the Ocean Course at Hokuala holds a monthly event that you won ’ t want to miss .
The Clubfitting and Golf Exchange takes place at the driving range every third Saturday and provides golfers the opportunity either to sell their old clubs or to purchase new gear .
Those looking to sell used equipment have the ability to rent a hitting bay for $ 50 so golfers can try them out . For new equipment purchases , Callaway and PING offer fitting carts on site , and a PXG representative is on hand as well . ............................................ > CALL the golf shop at ( 808 ) 241-6000 for details .

FAMILY AFFAIR
Tommy Hines , along with his sister Kellie , helps golfers at Hokuala improve their games
Tommy Hines has been a golf instructor at the Ocean Course at Hokuala for two years . He also happens to be the brother of Director of Instruction Kellie Hines , who got her start at the course a number of years ago working for her father , Tom .
Here , Tommy shares how he got into teaching , what he enjoys about it , and what he likes to do in his spare time . uuu How did you get into teaching ?
When I was in high school , I was on the driving range at the old Kauai Surf , where Hokuala is now . A golfer asked for help and I fixed his alignment . He improved and bought me a soda .
uuu What do you enjoy about teaching ? Cultivating junior golfers into a game that
will be with them for the rest of their lives , as well as teaching life skills , and guiding them about golf scholarships , playing on professional tours , or just to be able to play the game . It will be totally up to them .
What ’ s it like teaching with your sister , Kellie ? My sister and I have been in
the golf business for more than 25 years and this is our first encounter working together . I do enjoy my time with Kellie and her teaching ideas that she shares with me . I ’ m a very good listener .
uuu
What ’ s your best advice for golfers playing the Ocean Course ? Occasionally ,
the trade winds kick up when playing the Ocean Course at Hokuala . When you are playing into the wind , play the yardage to the back of the green . When playing down wind , play the yardage to the front of the green . Either way you should end up in the middle of the green . Not a bad place to be .

What do you like to do in your spare time ? Four-wheeling with my truck
in the mountains or on the beach . If it ’ s on the beach , I will go fishing and enjoy the ocean . .................................................................................... > TO BOOK lessons with Tommy ( or his sister Kellie ), please call ( 808 ) 241-6000 .
