WELCOME READY FOR ACTION
Top collegiate event tees it up at the Ocean Course
The University of Hawaii ’ s most historic and longest-running men ’ s golf tournament is coming to the Ocean Course at Hokuala , and we couldn ’ t be more excited .
Named after the former governor of Hawaii , the John A . Burns Intercollegiate will take place February 17-19 , marking the 45th year of the tournament and the first of what we hope will be many years here .
A field of 18 teams – seven ranked in the top 100 in the country – will compete in the event , including defending champion Texas A & M , which is currently ranked ninth in the nation . In addition to the host Rainbow Warriors , who are now coached by former PGA Tour stalwart and U . S . Open Champion Scott Simpson , the tournament features a host of past champions , including Arizona , New Mexico , BYU , California and UNLV .
We ’ re really looking forward to hosting the championship so we can showcase the hard work of the team at the golf course , the awesome property of Timbers Kauai and the overwhelming Aloha spirit that the entire property embodies .
As for the golf course , it is absolutely tournament ready . The shot values that it demands will require all the skills of any competitive golfer and the layout has every bit of the bones of a major-worthy golf course as well as the beauty of Kauai , and the longest stretch of oceanfront holes in the state .
We ’ re looking forward to being gracious hosts , and the team here is excited to prepare everyone for a truly Kauai golf experience .
