FUN FACTS SWEET TREAT

The Farm at Hokuala harvests honey for owners and guests to enjoy

The golf course isn ’ t the only thing that creates a buzz at Hokuala . Ever since 2018 , the area has been home to a sizable honey-making operation that supplies the sweet stuff to Hualani ’ s Restaurant and to owners and guests of Timbers Resort . There are currently a dozen hives located on The Farm at

Hokuala and approximately 40,000-60,000 bees in each one .

The hives are operated by My Kauai Honey , a local company run by beekeeper Mike Yulo , who has been making honey for 40 years .
About 3-4 times a year , Yulo will take the honeycombs from the hives at Hokuala to a nearby Honey House , where it is extracted , and then put in jars with the Timbers Kauai label . Some of the honey is used for menu items at Hualani ’ s as well as drinks , such as the Timbers Bee ’ s Knee ’ s , a cocktail also mixed with Bombay Sapphire and lemon .
Having fresh honey available for owners and guests is also a plus , although it comes with a small price for Yulo , who has been stung numerous times in his career .
“ The stings differ in pain ,” he said . “ Some are just like a pin prick , but it depends on how mad the bee is .” ....................................................................................................... > CLICK HERE to visit My Kauai Honey .
