Environment and Sustainable Energy

The topic of 2013 reflected the growing concerns and needs for strategical changes to secure our future in the Kingdom and worldwide . I had led the research on membranes for sustainable energy in Germany before moving to KAUST , and it was a natural decision to promote these subjects . The environmental concerns are exponentially growing ; It is about water , air , the conservation of biodiversity in the oceans . With that in mind , we brought the grandson of Jacques Cousteau , the ocean explorer who highly inspired me as a child . We invited the chairman of Renewable Energy at CNRS , as well as the most prominent scientist in solar cells . Also , we had the chance to bring artists , psychiatrists , genealogists , and astronauts . WEP is an opportunity for diversifying our interests , exercising our passions , and identifying new ones outside of our rather strict scientific work .
