Conversion to a New Belief Spain has colonized the Philippines for 333 years; within those years, a lot of events were experienced enlightenment and suffering. Within those 333 years, they have shared their culture with the Filipinos such as art, literature, traditions, and religion. The social and cultural development of the Philippines was the effect of the Spanish colonization during 1565 to 1898. The Evolution of Language The Philippines’ literature was slowly modified when the Spaniards started to share their language with the Filipinos. The Baybayin script that the ancestors have been using was replaced by the alphabet that included ñ and ng. In addition, numerical figures were also influenced in our country such as the use of Roman numerals. A number of words were also added like veranda which means the porch of the house, kubyertos which stands as utensils like spoons and forks. The Spanish colonization made a big impact in the evolution of the Filipino language. Development of Attire and Architecture Spain has also influenced the country with their artistic culture. It is shown with the way how Filipino people dress like wearing bahags that came from the ancestors to having Filipiniana and Barong Tagalog. In addition, the Spanish style was also adapted in terms of architecture, especially with the houses with the use of the Antillean style of architecture. It was used by the Spaniards when they built their houses in pueblos in the conquered cities of the Philippines.
