Karen Weaver's Fight for Clean Water | Page 8

“I grew up on the Northside…” Weaver says she is committed to staying strong and continuing the fight, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because Flint is where her roots are. “I grew up on the Northside”, she recalls fondly. “It’s so funny, because people assume I grew up in a certain neighborhood, but great things can come from the Northside. My mother was the first black teacher in Flint. My dad was a physician and the first black person elected to the Board of Education in Flint. When he died, my grandmother came to live with us to help my mom. There is so much about Flint that makes me feel good. It makes me feel strong. I see so much potential. We are Flintstones, and we are Flint strong for the right fight. This is the right fight.” KARENABOUTFLINT.com
