Virgil Smith II READY TO SERVE “I am ready to hit the ground running, to serve the people of District 2”, he said. There are many who agree. Citizens and voters were the catalyst for his 2017 campaign, urging him to run despite the challenges of his past. He has been endorsed by the 14th Congressional District. He believes that jobs and neighborhoods matter and that good policies can net better results for people in his district. He is committed to continuing his work in the community by listening to its citizens and addressing issues like jobs, economic development, schools and even insurance rates. He is urging voters to not become complacent and think that their vote doesn’t matter. “Who wins an election determines who you have to fight for you against ‘redlining’ on insurance rates, who will help devise a plan to help people pay their sewer and water bills, how college tuitions are charged, where revenue comes from, the capturing of income taxes, revenue sharing, and so much more.” Virgil believes that his path has given him both a strong history and background in government service but also his struggles have given him empathy and understanding and an extra ability to understand the struggles of those he would represent. “I take my job seriously,” he said. “I am here to serve. I was blessed to be trained and educated in government, and I’m here to work for the people. I am here. Detroiters can count on me.”
