Simeonie Tukalak
ᓯᒥᐅᓂ ᑐᑲᓚᒃ
Simeonie, sculpteur autodidacte de 39 ans originaire de Puvirnituq, est réputé pour
l’attention qu’il porte au détail dans son travail d’artiste. Il sculpte une multitude de
matériaux tels que l’ivoire, les bois de caribou et même les fanons. Inspiré par les animaux nordiques et les outils traditionnels inuit, il crée des œuvres de différents formats:
des petits bijoux – qu’il aimerait voir un jour portés par tous au Nunavik – jusqu’à une
grande sculpture de plus d’un demi-mètre représentant un ours polaire et un phoque.

Simeonie, a 39 year-old self-taught carver from Puvirnituq, is renowned for his attention
to detail in his artwork. He carves using a multitude of materials such as ivory, caribou
antler and even baleen; and is inspired by northern animals and traditional Inuit tools.
His carvings span from smaller jewelry, which he hopes to someday see everyone in
Nunavik wearing, all the way to a two-foot long sculpture of a polar bear and seal.
