Helena’s Lament by Megan Range Two young lovers, Jack and Jill, Put their love upon a hill And the view from there was great They held the earth upon a plate Passions high, emotions climb Then their thoughts turned into crime Tiger, tiger, burning bright, Stole from them their inner light The fear within swallowed them whole Darkness descended their soul Downwards, down fell Jack and Jill Though they loved each other still Pounced upon by patterned paw Their hearts were left frozen and raw Inflated anxieties Turned passion to formalities Though hard we may think we fall There is a tiger in us all 96
