Foreword
Greetings and welcome to the twelfth issue of Kaleidoscope! The inspiration for the theme “Music”
came to me as I was listening to Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” in my room. ‘What if,’ I wondered, ‘we took
the titles of songs or albums and turned them into literary works?’ It was a new challenge for the writers in
Kaleidoscope and turned out to be incredibly fun as we switched the songs into stories of our own. Just like
we had fun imagining and writing, I hope you have fun reading the works as well.
This magazine will be my final responsibility as the tenth Editor-in-Chief of Kaleidoscope so I would
like to acknowledge and thank people who helped Kaleidoscope to grow into the literary hub of aspiring
writers and illustrators in HAFS. First, I would like to thank the readers and people who continuously showed
their support for Kaleidoscope. Without them, we wouldn’t have come this far. I especially thank the members
of the school’s photography club Lux. Dica for their contribution to the magazine. I would also like to thank
the PR members who played a crucial role in managing our external affairs. The poetry exhibitions, the fundraisers, and the accounting wouldn’t have been possible without them. Finally, the Kaleidoscope writers and
illustrators: It was such an honor working with such talented people. I learned so much from the invaluable
experience and hope you did as well. Never lose the literary spark that you hold in your heart and don’t forget
the time you spent outlining and creating your stories, poems, and illustrations. Whenever you feel dejected or
stuck, remember the elation that comes to you after holding your published work and keep on.
I would like to encourage everyone to remember the motto of Kaleidoscope, ‘Look into your kalei-
doscope of creativity!’ before they start reading the issue. Thank you once again. The two years working at
Kaleidoscope has been wonderful, at times difficult, but most of all, worthwhile.
