Producing this variety of vegetables presents a special challenge but one which our members are always equal to with some careful planning. We meet a few times each season, apart from our regular gardening sessions, to sit down and discuss what we want to eat( and thus what we want to grow). The beds are rotated to ensure crop diseases are managed and no part of the beds is over-worked.

We also do our best to place plants in advantageous positions next to their natural companions, benefiting rather than competing with each other.
Our planning sometimes isn’ t quite what it could be, though: last year, we somehow forgot that the pea variety we planted was purple …. That was a pleasant surprise to see when they grew! We harvested the peas and ate them raw the same day as part of a picnic— they were divine.
