I sat down with a few friends and asked them about this concept. I told them this would remain anonymous simply to let their honesty shine through. One friend, a guy who has been in Second Life for close to ten years, shared this.

Doing anything through a screen is basically like you wearing a mask. When going onto Second Life, I strip away a lot of my restrictions, or limitations. I’m open-minded in Real Life to a certain degree, but I find myself much, much more open-minded in Second Life.

I find myself having conversation in SL that I wouldn’t likely have in RL,

exploring worlds of Domination and submission. I probably wouldn’t have these types of conversations in RL, primarily due to where I live in the world and it’s not the easiest subject to talk about with people who may not be familiar with it. However, in SL, you can put on a mask and join that community and speak freely about whatever that community practices without any judgements.
