I had been following Magic Marker’s Flickr stream for a while before we stumbled onto each other at Furillen many months ago. I was on my erratic wandering schedules and saw this small avatar, a cute Gummi Bear walking with pride strutting an even cuter smile. Who else could pull that off? I should have guessed. Right off I realized the aura she carries around her, the magic that she cannot hide and the smile that she cannot take off anyone who knows her and understands her. Having known her for a while now, as the mind that drives and as the heart that breathes life into that avatar, I can say she has a personality of Midas’s touch with the power to delight anyone. This was a great opportunity for me, as an advent admirer of her work, to get to know her better.

We sat at the edge of the Furillen by the round chair and looking out to the water surrounding the beautiful sim. I had to start sounding like an interviewer before she would throw a pun at me and we would never get this interview done (remember I was doomed). “So, let me start off with the list of questions I have here. Who is Magic Marker? Why did you choose to call yourself that?” With a short break in trying to recuperate herself she replied “People always ask me about the name. It was given to me by someone I met in-world when I first joined Second Life, someone I don’t see any longer but who is always with me. He said from the very first time we met, I was like a colorful bursting rainbow and my energy could be felt by others around me; that people's behavior changed. I thought he was cracked in the head. He said I was a magic marker and I joked that I would make that my new name. I haven’t changed it since.  I came to this world, knowing nothing of virtual reality and very little interest in computers, until one day I watched a documentary and got curious enough to look into it.
