Kenyans shine at Canes Film Festival A PRODUCER’S NETWORK FORUM organized by the Canes Film Market which took place on 19th to 26th May 2013 has abundantly boosted Kenya’s film industry. Kenya was invited for the first time to grace the 66th edition of the annual Canes Film Festival in the Cane city along the Mediterranean coast of France. A number of exciting activities took place including pitching of a pavilion and hosting the national flag at the event (for the first time) plus an exclusive Kenya Day at the market square. Another highlight for Kenya in Canes was the signing of a cooperation deal between the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) and the National Film and The Video Foundation of South Africa. The agreement aims to open closer links between the Film Industries in Kenya and South Africa.”The two countries are leading in making quality films in the continent and will no doubt benefit from the global market in promoting the industry both locally and internationally.” Said Peter Mutie, CEO Kenya Film Commission. Kenyans who attended the forum in Canes included;CEO Peter Mutie of KFC, Alex Mulwa (Marketing Manager KFC), Film maker Bob Nyanja, Film producers Njeri Kirago, Jim Shamoom and Marie Lora Mungai (Founder& CEO Buni TV) and Victor Muniafu. Gear up, there is another festival ! THE 27TH SESSION OF THE Residence Du Festival will take place from October 1, 2013 to February 15, 2014. The selection is open to young filmmakers from all over the world who are working on their first or second feature film. A jury selects 6 candidates for each of the two four and a half month sessions per year. The candidates are selected on the strength of the short films or the 1st feature that they have already directed as well as on their planned feature and the reasons why they wish to participate in the Residence programme.
