“Blue jeans, white shirt, walked into the room you
know you made my eyes burn” – Lana Del Rey,
“Blue Jeans”
Blue jeans have always been associated with
comfort and durability, but its history speaks a lot
about the evolving nature of this style statement.
A Bavarian immigrant- Levi Strauss introduced
denim to America in 1853. Due to their sturdiness,
coalminers and cowboys donned blue denims.
White shirt is the icon for elegance and simplicity
that was only worn by people belonging to high
class. At the culmination of the 19th century, the
increasing affordability and availability of the white
shirt made it lose its value and class symbol.
Later on, stars like James Dean and Marilyn Monroe
popularised denims and white shirt, and as people
didn’t have easy access to Internet or television, film
stars and movies were the sole source of influence.
