67 October 18-20 , 1987 , was in Kansas City at the Alameda Plaza . The theme was “ The Shape of Things to Come .” Five hundred twenty-nine attended .
68 October 27-29 , 1988 , was in Kansas City at the Alameda Plaza . The theme was “ Building of Tradition .” Since its beginning in 1920 , the Independent Insurance Agents of Kansas have been building solid traditions handed down by the association ’ s founders . Long-time members of the association ( 50 years or more ) were recognized at the convention .
69 October 22-24 , 1989 was at the Lake of the Ozarks , Missouri , at the Four Seasons . The theme was “ Catch the Wave to Success .” It was the second convention that had been out of state .
70 October 17-19 , 1990 , was in Wichita at the Airport Hilton . The theme was “ Back to the Future .” Over 400 attended .
71 October 16-18 , 1991 , was in Kansas City at the Ritz-Charlton . The theme was “ Putting on the Ritz .” Besides golf , a dinner cruise was offered on the Missouri River Queen .
72 October 18-20 , 1992 , the first PIIAK convention was held in Kansas City at the Westin Crown Center . The theme was “ Winning Together .” Olympic rings were used for the artwork with the IIAK and PIAK logos in the rings . Registration was at an all-time high for both agents and company representatives .
73 October 10-12 , 1993 , was held in Kansas City at the Hyatt Regency . The theme was “ Passport to Success .” Over 500 attended .
74 October 16-18 , 1994 was held in Wichita at the Airport Hilton . The theme was “ Today ’ s Challenges , Tomorrow ’ s Champions .”
75 October 15-17 , 1995 was held in the Lake of the Ozarks , Missouri , at the Lodge of the Four Seasons . The theme was “ Changing with the Seasons .” It was the third out-of-state convention .
76 October 10-12 , 1996 was in Kansas City , Missouri , at the Hyatt Regency . The theme was “ All That Jazz .” The association held a special event at the convention to burn the mortgage papers on the loan for the new building . Larry Magill , past executive vice president of the association , was a guest at the event .
77 October 19-21 , 1997 , was in Wichita at the Airport Hilton . The theme was “ Independence Makes a Difference .” The opening session started with a bang – literally . Complete with strobe lights and smoke , KAIA ’ s President Ross Hartley rode into the session on a motorcycle to deliver his address to the packed crowd . Accompanying him on the bike , in matching black leather riding attire , was Insurance Commissioner Kathleen Sebelius .
78 August 8-11 , 1998 was in Afton , Oklahoma , at the Shangri La Resort on the shores of the Grand Lake O ’ the Cherokees . It was the first convention held in the summertime and the fourth out-of-state convention . The focus was on family fun , featuring lots of available time to spend with the family . It included a riverboat cruise of the Cherokee Queen and a Kids Kamp .
79 October 17-19 , 1999 was in Wichita at the new Hyatt Regency . The theme was “ Be First in the 21st . “
