• Stephen L . Ross – Steve was president of the association in 1991 . He was from Arkansas City and a president of the United Agency . Steve was the son of former president Kenneth Ross , 1950 . He brought over 25 years of insurance experience with him to the board – 15 years as President of the United Agency . He graduated from the University of Kansas with a Business Administration Degree and started working in his father ’ s agency in 1964 . After attending the 1996 convention , he stated : “ The farther along I get in my career , the more convinced I am that some of my most productive time has been spent at conventions .”
• Ed Rutter – Ed was president of the association in 1976 . Ed was from Garden city and president of the Heinemann Agency . He attended Wichita University , the University of Oregon , and Mexico City College . Ed was on the Facility Task Force Committee for the new building . He is past president of the Garden City Insurance Board and the Garden City Lions Club . He was also a member of the American Legion , Elks , Masonic Lodge , and The Midian Shrine .
• Raymond M . ( Pinkie ) Ryan – Ray was president of the association in 1982 . He was from Pittsburg , where he started his agency in 1969 , the Angwin , Ryan & Stanley Agency , and built it into one of the most dominant agencies in southeast Kansas . He was state national director for six years , from 1984 through 1989 . He provided leadership to KAIA for over a decade and a half beginning in 1975 when he was first elected to the board . Ray received the Outstanding Agent Award in 1984 and the Distinguished Service Award three times , in 1982 , 1989 , and 2014 . Ray also received the Presidential Citation Award in 2001 . Ray was a graduate of Kansas State College in Pittsburg .
• Vicki Schmidt – Vicki was elected Insurance Commission on November 6 , 2018 . She is a lifelong Kansan and a Republican . She worked 40 years serving Kansas as a pharmacist . She has represented the Kansas Senate from 2005 to 2019 . She served as Chair of the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee . Vicki was the Senate Assistant Majority Leader from 2009-2012 .
• Charles Schoonover , Jr . – Charles was president of the association in 1948 . Charles was from Garden City , Bosworth-Schoonover Agency . In one of his president ’ s Messages , he stated : “ After every great social convulsion comes a period of decadence while men seek new values to replace those they lost . The American Agency System is currently being subjected to many adjustments because of the changing economic and social order . 1948 promises to be a year of numerous adjustments for the American Agency System and the insurance companies .”
• SueAnn Schultz – SueAnn was president of the association in 2015 . SueAnn was with IMA , Inc . of Topeka . She was a senior vice president , General Counsel , and secretary of the Board of Directors of the IMA Financial Group . She received her Bachelor of Arts in 1980 from Bethany College , her Juris Doctorate Degree from Washburn University in 1983 . Before joining IMA in 1997 , SueAnn was with Nations Bank- Kansas for 12 years . In her first President ’ s Page article , she stated : “ Let ’ s go all-in with purpose as we carry our industry , our association , and our legacy into the future . Let ’ s not just lean in , let ’ s go all-in ”!
• Donald E . Schulze - Don was president of the association in 1958 . He also served as secretary in 1956 and was the state national director in 1959 . Don was from Kansas City , the W . H . Schlatter Agency . During his presidency , the association was incorporated under the laws of Kansas as a not-for-profit corporation on January 2 , 1958 . The new legal name of the association changed to Kansas Association of Independent Insurance Agents , Inc . In 1955 Don was president of Kansas City Sertoma and received the Sertoma “ Service to Mankind ” award in 1957 . In 1964 he was elected Potentate of Abdallah Shrine Temple in Kansas City .
• Robert E . Schumacher – Robert was president of the association in 1981 . Robert was from Hays , High Plaines Insurance . He wrote an article dating the national association back to 1905 . He recalled charter
