treasurer for the association until 2001 . He received the Outstanding Agent Award in 1990 . Dan was chairman of the Kansas Insurance Education Foundation for several years . He was KAIA ’ s representative on the Kansas Workers Compensation Advisory Council when it was formed in 1993 through 2001 . In 1977 Dan and Charlie Hostetler co-authored a book called “ Profit-Sharing Agreements .” Dan graduated from Kansas University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration . He began his insurance career in 1970 with Royal Globe Company and in 1972 moved to CNA . Dan earned his CPCU designation in October 1980 . In 2001 Dan received the Presidential Citation Award .
• Bert E . Mitchner – Bert Was president of the association in 1929 . Bert was from Hutchinson , Wheeler , Kelly & Hagny Agency . In 1938 , Bert was awarded the Frank Priest Award for the Hutchinson Board . Bert was also awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the association in 1938 . Bert said in a speech at the convention in 1938 that some things are fundamental to success in the insurance business or any other business . He said : “ Honest endeavor , intelligent thinking , courtesy , goodwill , faith , and enthusiasm are never out of date and are essential in building a successful business .” Bert also gave speeches at the national conventions in 1937 , “ What About Consumer Cooperatives ” and 1938 ,” Where Are We Going and How .” Copies of both of these presentations are in our history files . Bert was the Kansas director of Revenue and Taxation in 1939 .
• Marcia K . Moore – Marcia was hired in December 1985 as director of Accounting and Finance . She was also responsible for all the building maintenance and purchasing . She was involved with the planning and completion of the new association building in 1989 . In , 2011 at the Rural & Small Agents Conference , she was honored for her 25 years of service by President Mark Lowry . In 2011 she was promoted to vice president of Operations . In 2011-12 she played a vital role in the renovations and development of the Larry Magill Education Center and the remodeling of the downstairs offices . Marcia retired on May 1 , 2013 , with 28 years of service . The staff and board honored her with a card shower and celebration dinner . After her retirement , she plans on researching and writing the history of the association . She is considered KAIA ’ s official historian .
• Don L . Morris – Don was president of the association in 2004 . Don began his insurance career in 1973 with Commercial Insurance Services in Topeka . In 1983 he purchased the Herb Achey Insurance Agency and renamed it Morris & Associates , of which he was president . In his acceptance speech , Don stated : “ The insurance industry is changing at an ever-increasing pace . But with a strong association behind us , we can be in the vanguard of that change for our customer ’ s benefit ”. Don served on the board of directors of Team Bank , N . A . and Miami County Medical Center . He was past president of the Paola Lions Club and Paola Country Club . He was also a member of the Unified School District # 368 ’ s Endowment Board and a past board of directors member of the Information Network of Kansas . Don graduated from Washburn University .
• Patrick J . Morris – Pat was hired as executive vice president of the association in December 1995 . He came from Sioux Falls , South Dakota , where he was the standards , procedures , and training manager for Rural Community Insurance Services . Before that , he was regional compliance director of the Federal Crop Corporation for the US Department of Agriculture . Pat graduated from Christopher Newport College with a bachelor ’ s of science in Governmental Administration . He held a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kentucky . Pat served in the U . S . Marine Corps for three years . Pat resigned in 2000 .
• Thomas V . “ Tom ” Murry – Tom was president of the association in 2001 . Tom has been in the insurance business since 1977 . He was president of ICI in El Dorado ; their history began in 1885 . He graduated from Pittsburg State University . He completed his education in the insurance industry by receiving the Certified Insurance Counselor program in 1983 . He also completed the Life Underwriters Training Council . Tom was
