VANESSA TOMASCSEK- featured artwork "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" "My name is Vanessa and I'm a 19-year old girl from Germany. It was the summer of 2013 when I became a major Prince fan. I had heard of him before and always loved songs like 'Purple Rain' and 'Kiss' which is why one day I decided to find out more about him. First of all, I went to a record store and bought 'The Very Best of Prince.' From the moment I first listened to 'When Doves Cry' I immediately got hooked on him. That's where my journey with Prince began. I can still recall that night I ordered 3 more albums (Sign O' the Times, Parade & Lovesexy) online while being on vacation. I couldn't wait to arrive home and listen to them. Step by step my obsession grew to the point that I started decorating my bedroom with Prince posters. I even painted his symbol on my wall (42 x 36 inches). Once I got a record player I started a massive collection of Prince vinyls, which I'm extremely proud of. I own roughly 50 records on vinyl and 16 on CD so far. Additionally, I also have DVDs. I enjoy watching his films as well as his concerts. Unfortunately I've never had a chance to see him live which used to be my biggest dream. But I can imagine that it would have been an amazing experience and I'm sure that he's by far the best performer that has ever existed. I strongly believe that there won't ever be anyone better than him or even as good as him. Prince was unique and extremely gifted. He produced, arranged, composed and performed everything himself on some of his albums, unlike most artists nowadays who get everything done by producers, songwriters etc. Furthermore, Prince didn't like lip-synching and with a voice like his, he didn't need it either. Today's music barely uses real instruments anymore, instead, almost every song is being produced on a computer. Prince stayed loyal to his instruments. After all, he could play about 20 instruments and was, in my opinion, the greatest guitarist in the world. But he was also able to adapt to modern music, without being unfaithful to his own style. He could release new music and make it sound fresh but it would also sound as funky as it did back in the day and be totally typical for Prince. During his incredible career he was ahead of his time and a trendsetter for other artists. I hope and believe that his music will live on forever and he'll never cease to amaze people. Over the years he's created music of many genres. From rock and pop to funk, r&b and more. That's why his music is something for everyone! To me, Prince is a King, namely the King of Music. The moment I heard the bad news, it felt like having a nervous breakdown. It seemed like my whole world was falling apart that day. Prince was and will always be a great inspiration to me. He's the reason I started to learn how to play the guitar. Since I aspire to become an actress, it's been very helpful that Prince has taught me self-confidence. Prince himself didn't care much about what people thought of him wearing heels or stockings on stage. Judging by interviews I've seen and what I've heard people say about him, he was a shy person and despite being shy he rocked the stage and achieved to become an icon. Sadly, I'm pretty shy myself but I will try not to let that get in the way of fulfilling my dreams. Another thing I really admire about him is that he was humble and down to earth, unlike most celebrities. I strive to be like him. He is my biggest role model. I look up to him so much. I want to thank Prince for all that he's given me and other fans and for what he's taught us. He's taught us about the music industry and about spirituality. He told us to fight for our dreams, our rights and for freedom and to be independent. He's given us a lot of brilliant and everlasting music and made it possible for artists like Sheila E and other protegees to bless us with their music. Over the years I've made great friends on the internet who are also huge fans (Marcellina G. & Lisa K.) and I'm grateful for that. He was there for me through his music when nobody else was and he has changed my life completely. Thank you for everything, Prince. I love you from the bottom of my purple heart and I hope to see you in the "afterlife" that you've always spoken of. I Wish You Heaven O(+>" Twitter: vanessa00700 Instagram: vany_insane
