JASON SINNER Jason Sinner is a singer/songwriter/composer who has written and co-written for television and movies. Although best known for his music, he has been getting recognition for his poetry. Interview by Kimmo Matias. Tell something about yourself and your background? I was born in Los Angeles county in California. I grew up rough, but at the same time had a lot of freedom to grow. As a kid I had no fear. The kids in my neighborhood and I did every dangerous thing imaginable, and we never wore helmets. Yet, somehow we survived. Are you a self-taught writer? Mostly. I did have a couple of English classes in college, but I have been writing since I was around 8, so they just helped polish my grammar and punctuation. I try to write with freedom from those rules as far as my poetry is concerned. How long have you been writing poetry? Can you remember the first poem you wrote and if so, what was it about? I wrote my first poem when I was probably about 9 or so, and I can't remember the title or what the exact words were, but it was about sunshine and flowers. I was an optimistic kid. What/who are your muses, your sources of inspiration, thematically speaking? My muses come in many forms. Some have been people from my past or present, but mostly my muses reside in my head. I hear a voice that tells me what to write, and I write it out. I know that sounds crazy, but most of what I write just pours out. Why do you think you chose an art form that's made up of words? Words change the world. At least, that's my opinion. Think of all the great speeches, songs, poetry, and even quotes that have shaped the world around us. I still believe you can change the world with words. Have you been published? I have published a poetry book myself; thanks to www.Eprintedbooks.com.
