Q& A
Here are a few questions from our readers:
Does birth control (condoms, pills, etc...) expire?
Yes. Condoms can break down over time and so can
other types of birth control made of latex or plastic.
Pills become less effective and can expire anywhere
from 3-5 years, depending on the manufacturer.
Always remember to check expiration dates and don’t rely
on expired birth control.
Does anal sex make you lose control of pooping?
A lot of anal action may weaken your sphincter (the
muscle at the outer opening of your butt that tightens
to hold feces in), which can lead to a leaky butthole and
less control over bowel movements (pooping). However,
there are exercises called kegels that you can do to strengthen
your anus, or butthole. Keep in mind, anal sex is the riskiest type
of sex for spreading or catching HIV/ST Ds, so make sure to use
condoms if you are engaging in anal sex or any other form of sex.
