How many people are killed by snakes every year?

Developing A Global Antidote For Snake Bites: 100,000 People Die

From Snake Bites Each Year. Summary: Globally snake bite affects

the lives of some 4.5 million people every year, and conservative

estimates suggest that at least 100,000 people die from snake bite,

and another 250,000 are permanently disabled.

A TOTAL of 127 Queenslanders have been bitten by snakes since June,

with experts warning that the figure will increase as the weather warms

up.

It comes after a Townsville man died on Sunday of a suspected snake

bite and a Cairns woman was bitten in her car.

Queensland Ambulance Service director Tony Hucker said the service

had responded to 653 snake bite incidents in the 2014-15 financial

year and the recent spate of bites was of concern.

“Already since June we’ve attended 24 snake bite cases in Brisbane, 18

in the Cairns and Cape York

region and 17 in central

Queensland,” Mr Hucker said.

“Queenslanders and tourists

should be alert as the state is

home to some of the world’s

most venomous snakes including

the red-bellied black, eastern

brown and common death adder.”
