becoming A HEalthy ceo

Being a Successful Healthy CEO

What if you thought of your health as though it were a company, and you were the CEO? If you considered managing your health with this approach, you could be well on your way to superior health and then think; what else could you achieve?

Don’t Over Extend Yourself:

A CEO’s time is important, and when it’s overwhelmed with meetings and conference calls, it can easily crowd out the most important item; your health. Prioritize important appointments like regularly scheduled blood draws, personal trainer appointments, nutritionist meetings, and workouts – and don’t move them for anything. Put each in the calendar and give it its own time slot, then you can adjust as the day permits.

Bury Yourself with Good, Useful Information

As the key decision maker for the company; it’s important to make informed decisions that have clear goals in mind. Identify the critical numbers you need to track – is it blood sugar? Inflammation? Vitamin D or magnesium levels? – and track them. If you take only a few minutes out a day to do this; it will help you feel more confident as a leader and with what may lay ahead for you and your company.

Maintain a Personal Connection; make the rounds

It can be very easy for a CEO to become impersonal as the company grows. Since health is not one size fits all, take time to educate yourself on whether the choices you’re making are right for you. Many health and fitness magazines will tout “the best” and “the ultimate” ways to lose weight or build muscle, but in the end it comes down to what’s right for your body. Also as a CEO’s business grows, it will change as do our bodies. One habit of a successful CEO is that they have their finger on the pulse of their team throughout these changes. This is the same for your body. Listen to your body’s signs and the feedback it’s giving you; aches, pains, muscle soreness and be ready to ask questions, keep educating yourself, and make the changes needed as would with you business.

Communicate Effectively with Your Board

Meaning, your board is your doctor. When you have time with your Doctor, communicate changes. It’s in your best interest to take some time to organize yourself; setting aside some time to clearly identify and even write down the goals and outcomes you’d like to achieve. By being familiar with what you’d like to discuss beforehand, it’s an effective way to make use of your time and clearly communicate your expectations and needs. Achieving these goals will be within your grasp with the proper planning.

Learn to Laugh, Especially at Yourself

Humor is vital to any workplace and a valuable skill for any CEO because it puts collegues and clients at ease. Studies have shown that there are short term and long term benefits to laughing. Therefore, always smile and keep things light even in the darkest of days. It’s proven; laughing will reduce your Stress; so laugh. More importantly learn to not take yourself so seriously because you are a CEO with impressive credentials and many large responsibilities.

In the end the most successful CEOs are those that understand the fine line between success and failure and who know how to deal with both results with equal measure.
