Who knew when we told our mom we wanted to GIVE money to charity AND deliver it ourselves, it would actually happen! Last September after a lot of hard work and fierce determination, we set out on a dream to visit 12 counties in 12 months and raise 1 million dollars. It has been a life changing experience of scary moments: with tarantulas in the Dominican Republic and being caught in Hurricane Otto in Costa Rica, but it has also been filled with amazing moments, like meeting all the kids who hugged us every day and painting an entire community centre in Mexico with inspiring art.
Much of what we planned didn’ t happen, and lots happened that we had no idea was going to. Every day was both emotional and empowering. It taught us strength, tenacity, compassion, fortitude and the willingness to keep going no matter how hard it got. Some days it was super difficult with little food, wet blankets, lots of rain and a million mosquito bites! Yet, through it all, it was life changing; to help those in need, to teach English to those who wanted to learn, to bring a smile to a child’ s face or hope into an adult’ s eyes. It has transformed us all and we are so thankful for your support.
With a new year here, new ideas, directions and desires have arisen. We see where we have not met our goals and where we need to work harder. Happily, we raised $ 7238.81 in donations and gave all of it away every month to our charities. We have a long way to go to make our 1 million mark and we ARE NOT GIVING UP! This month we will introduce our Ocean Buddies, cute stuffies we created to help raise money for ocean conservation. We also designed JUST GIVE bracelets to wear and pay if forward. 100 % of the proceeds we make will go towards us helping the environment, the people and the planet be a better place.
Of course we need your help to keep our initiative going strong, but mainly we need your love, encouragements and prayers; all things we felt daily from each of you. We want to continue supporting those in need, sharing the message that“ giving matters” and bringing the many people, cultures and diversity closer to being ONE.
