I am a UK-based photographer who started my career in Sweden many years ago. I changed career when I had my children but took up photography again when I moved to Macclesfield in England and took up a BA Hons Degree in art photography (achieved First-Class Honours) at Liverpool Moores University. My work has been exhibited in Manchester, Stockport, Liverpool, London and will be exhibited during the FORMAT festival in Derby this March 2013.
I have particular interests in conceptual art photography but I'm also keen on portraits and landscapes. When working on my projects I use both digital and film depending on the project’s nature. I often show my work in a tragicomic way where the viewer is thrown between different feelings. My work has often been associated with tranquility, minimalism and space. When photographing, especially landscape, I like them to be black and white as it gives them a more minimalistic style, which is something I am aiming for in most of my photographs. However, the art projects I have done so far have all been in colour and the reason for that I guess is these are staged where I can decide what is in the photograph and what is not.
I enjoy going to different places in the world as it gives me inspiration and new ideas for new projects. In May I will take off on a one to two year expedition around the world riding my motorcycle. I have a few photo projects that I will be doing along the way that not only involves landscape but also portraying women all over the world.
A variety of my works can be seen on my blog Petra 365 Photographs where I publish one photo each day for a year, while my artworks can be viewed at Petra Stridfeldt Photography.
