The province of Surigao del Norte lies in the northeastern pensular tip of Mindanao in the south of the Philippines. In the two years time that I went back and forth to this place, I was exposed to the most scenic displays of nature - pure white sand beaches, unexplored coves, small islands jutting out from the sea, unique rock formations, and clear crystal waters. These are the isles that litter the seas around the bigger islands of Siargao (noted for its surfing sites), Bucas Grande and Dinagat, all part of Surigao del Norte (Dinagat has now branched off as a separate province). Mind you, the archipelago of the Philippines boasts of 7,100 islands with a combined total coastline of 23,000 kilometers. You've probably seen in travel magazines and online the picturesque places of Boracay, Pangao, Palawan and many others. I'd like to add the island getaways of Surigao del Norte in the list - almost unexplored and uncharted in its primeval beauty but a must-see, go-to destination.
