To some people gaming has evolved into a way of life. Sharing the role of a fictional character, such as a superhero, may serve as an escape from reality, and ultimately calm the soul, just as music does for many. Those who have reached this point of complete devotion to the gaming world have been burdened with an abundance of derogation, and are often referred to as nerds, dweebs, or bums, to name a few. But what outsiders don’t realize is the blessing that these Poindexter’s have blessed the Universe with. These gaming fanatics were the brilliant beings who decided to come together and celebrate their adoration for gaming, comic books, superheroes, sci­ence fiction movies, and a plethora of other unusual attractions in a massive commemoration of nerds. Comic-Con, as it was dubbed, has morphed into the holy grail of comic enthusiasts.

There you can jump from booth to booth shopping around for the latest paraphernalia, including t-shirts, fan art, and Cosplay props. There seems to be no limit as to what genres this convention honors, so don’t think you will walk away empty handed. A rise in attendance for those donning their favorite character’s garb from popular T.V. shows has occurred over the past several years. the onslaught

,the appropriateness of the materials used in the costume.The presentation award is given to the person with the best stage presence.This means entertaining the crowd with some live-action role play, in accordance with your character’s style, and whoever presents themselves the best wins. So, for those of you who are able to beat BioShock Infinite in one sitting, but can’t figure out how to work a sewing machine this is the category for you! Even if your costume isn’t the best aesthetically you still may be able to get the presentation award if you can properly portray the character and woo the crowd with your act.

Another highlight of the conventions are when famous actors or screenwriters make an appearance at the convention they take time to show some appreciation for these die-hard fans, often by holding meet-and-greets. At

"The Walking Dead” seems to be one of the biggest hits, as determined by the onslught of zombies lumbering through the convention recently.

This is not to mention the gaming tournaments some conventions host. Throughout the day people sign up, and then are selected to game against each other in front of a crowd. Talk about high-stakes!

The centerpiece of Comic-Con is the Cosplay. Quite simply, Cosplay is where you dress up as your favorite video game, sci-­fi, or comic book character. Not only is it fun to step in the shoes of Batman or a Predator, but now it has turned into a competition. At many Comic-Con conventions there are competitions where judges decide who has the best costume. There are two awards given to characters: the best craftsmanship and the best presentation.
