Initiated in 1963 , the Junior Auxiliary of Columbus ’ Scholarship Project strives to award a minimum of $ 30,000 in funds for higher education to Lowndes County graduates . These scholarships are made possible entirely by contributions and community participation in the Report to the Community publication .
Junior Auxiliary of Columbus uses direct communication with guidance counselors , social media marketing , as well as print advertising to solicit applications . Submissions must include a detailed resume and application for consideration by committee members . Recipients are selected based on merit and financial need with an emphasis placed on volunteerism within the community . Awards include one-time scholarships , which are issued for the student ’ s first semester of college and multi-semester awards that provide assistance for up to eight semesters of higher education . In 2014 , two scholarships were created in memoriam of former Junior Auxiliary of

“ While student loans are an option , after some research , you discover how quickly debt snowballs . Because of this , I would like to find ways to pay for college as I go and still have time to volunteer and help others . Receiving the Junior Auxiliary of Columbus scholarship would ease the stress of college expenses , allowing me to focus more on my classes , schoolwork , and reaching my goal of a master ’ s in mechanical engineering .” This quote from 2024 Terry Brewer Spirit Award recipient , Noah Honeycutt is the embodiment of our hopes for our scholarship recipients .
The Junior Auxiliary of Columbus had the privilege of adding an additional scholarship in 2023 . The Heart of Crown Club Scholarship is awarded to a
President Amy Sumrall and 2025 Heart of Crown Club recipient , prior member of Crown Club , who while a member , demonstrated leadership , character , and a love for service to the community and seeks to continue her spirit of volunteerism in the future .
