Challenge of Champions

Challenge of Champions is an indoor field day event held for special education children . Since 2018 , Junior Auxiliary of Columbus has had the privilege of presenting this project at Caledonia Schools and it was recently expanded to include West Lowndes . The goal of Challenge of Champions is to celebrate those with special needs while fostering an inclusive school community .
During the event , special education students are partnered with a
“ buddy ” from a mainstream classroom and together they participate in a variety of activities including various relay races , bean bag tosses , and hula hoop games . “ Challenge of Champions is the most anticipated project of the year for many chapter members . Seeing the kids participate in a dance party after the relays and games is always my favorite part , as it always takes on a life of its own . Seeing the kids ’ faces is priceless- It ’ s just priceless ” - Joni Frye , 2024-
2025 Committee Chair .
Cheered on and encouraged by buddies , school athletes , and committee members , the high energy event ends with each participant being awarded a personalized medal . Challenge of Champions is presented during the spring semester and its heartwarming atmosphere makes it a favorite among active members . Several associate and life members also volunteer for this project every year and remain a vital part of this fun day .
