The Junior Auxiliary of Columbus proudly presents its annual “ Report to the Community .” The purpose of this publication is to highlight our gracious sponsors whose support makes the work of this organization possible . Additionally , we hope to communicate to the public the ways in which JA of Columbus seeks to better the lives of children and families in Columbus and Lowndes County . As you look through these pages , please note the various corporate sponsors , businesses , and individual donors whose incredible generosity provides our organization with the resources needed to best serve our area . Every act of service carried out by JA of Columbus is funded through individual donations as well as the purchase of sponsorships and these advertisements . We are immensely grateful for the loving kindness of the businesses and individuals who place their trust in this organization .
For over 80 years , the mission of JA of Columbus remains to support , encourage , and better the children in our community . We begin the new school year by purchasing , packing and distributing art supplies to area elementary students . Providing students with new shoes , clothing , and uniforms is our largest financial commitment each year . As JA ’ s longest running provision to local schools , it is a steadfast need that we are honored to meet . Our backpack meal program is supplying weekend nourishment to a record number of children this year . While this fact is heartbreaking , we are blessed to have the means to meet the growing demands of food insecurities within area elementary and middle schools . Our annual scholarship program provides over $ 30,000 in funds to local high school seniors to help alleviate the financial obligation of furthering their educations , and our Crown Club is dedicated to fostering a heart for service in high school girls . In-school programs of Junior Auxiliary of Columbus teach topics such as the importance of hydration and staying active , the impact of simply choosing kindness among peers , and the responsibility of smart financial decisions . Our members mentor students through oneon-one tutoring sessions and encourage inclusivity among children with special needs through an indoor field day event . We also hold a three day camp for boys in grades 3-5 where educational and recreational activities are used to reinforce positive character and social skills .
We are earnestly aware of the dependence we have on our community and local school systems that enable us to continue the work of JA of Columbus . As an organization , we understand the tremendous privilege it is to serve our communities in this capacity , and we sincerely appreciate every business owner , school administrator , and individual who has supported us along the way . On behalf of the entire membership of Junior Auxiliary of Columbus , I express our immense gratitude to each of you . It is because of your graciousness that we are blessed to serve thousands of children each year .
The National Association of Junior Auxiliaries holds the motto , “ Caring Hearts . Helping Hands . Changing Lives .” While these words describe the mission of JA , it is our donors and sponsors who fully embody this call to action . It is often said that “ it takes a village ,” and we are forever grateful that Lowndes County is ours .
