Investing in Education

The Junior Auxiliary of Columbus Scholarship project , initiated in 1963 , strives to award a minimum of $ 30,000 in scholarships each year to deserving Lowndes County graduating seniors . Awards are funded solely on contributions to Junior Auxiliary of Columbus and community participation in its Report to the Community publication .
Junior Auxiliary of Columbus ’ Scholarship Committee solicits applications from high school students through direct communications with area school counselors , social media marketing , and print advertisement . Applicants are required to submit a detailed resume and application for consideration by committee members . Recipients are selected based on merit and financial need with an emphasis placed on those volunteering in the community . “ I am extremely blessed to have received a scholarship from the Junior Auxiliary of Columbus . This scholarship has given me the additional financial relief needed in order to pursue a career and education I am passionate about . provide assistance for up to eight semesters of college . In 2014 , two new scholarships were created in memory of former members Eleanor Slaughter and Terry Brewer . These two women demonstrated exceptional devotion to their communities and developed a sincere passion for serving the children of Lowndes County .
This year , Junior Auxiliary of Columbus established a new scholarship , Heart of Crown Club , for a graduating senior who is a prior member of Junior Auxiliary of Columbus ’ Crown Club . This scholarship is a one-time award to a former Crown Club member who demonstrated leadership , character , and an exceptional love for service to the community during her active years in Crown Club , and who continues to exhibit these characteristics with the intent to continue exhibiting her passion for community service after high school .
As a chapter devoted to children of all ages , this project allows Junior Auxiliary of Columbus to support high school seniors in a way that can produce a lifetime of benefit . Investing in a student ’ s higher education helps prepare the student for success in life and fosters a desire to serve others . Junior Auxiliary of Columbus is honored to play a small part in each recipient ’ s future through this influential project .
